On Thursday 7 March, students and staff from the new Ellesmere Port Church of England College were honoured to welcome respected Member of Parliament, Frank Field.
The new college unveiled its name in December last year and was the first school to join the Frank Field Education Trust (FFET). The MP was given a tour of the college’s spectacular 25 million pound campus where he met with the new Principal Mrs Cath Green, before addressing students in assembly. During his visit, students discussed the changes they had already experienced at the college and spoke about the future vision and direction.
Year 13 students Ethan Lonergan, Head Boy and Abby O’Regan, Head Girl said: “’Mr Field has a genuine interest in making progress with the college, he cares not only about the staff’s opinion but also the students as well – I have no doubts that this school will continue to improve with his support.â€
Mrs Cath Green, Principal said: “It was a pleasure and honour to have Frank Field visit the college. He spent a great deal of time touring the building and more importantly listening to the views of the children and staff. His vision of social justice through excellence in education is one which will transform the lives and future choices of all young people who attend the College and we look forward to welcoming him back to see the progress we have made on that journey.â€
Rt. Hon. Frank Field MP, Chair of FFET said: “Sitting in the Port is a prize of great worth which, for understandable reasons, due to previous mismanagement, is currently undervalued. But I had the privilege of spending two days at the Ellesmere Port Church of England College which is now under an excellent leadership team. During that visit, I saw intent, purpose and a pursuit of excellence which cannot long be hid from the town.â€
