'Real World' Work Experience for Year 10 students

Work placements are a great opportunity for young people to step out of their comfort zone and gain valuable experience in the world of work. Earlier this term, Year 10 students completed their work placements with local businesses across the community. Placements varied from small, independent companies to local charities. Students were able to develop key employability skills such as problem-solving, team working, communication and time management.
Abdellah Mekhalfia attended ‘Wells Pharmacy’ and received an impressive report which said:

“Abdellah is a highly intelligent person. I have been in the Pharmacy for nearly five years now and I have trained many dispensers over these years, but I was particularly impressed by how quickly he picked things up! I had complete trust in his work and I even allowed him to do jobs that needed experience. I am sure he will be a success in whatever field he decides to pursue – any business would be lucky to hire him.â€

Rebecca Povey, attended ‘Westminster Community Primary School’ and received glowing feedback:

â€œRebecca showed great enthusiasm and confidence during her time at our school. She is a great role model and will be missed by both staff and children.â€

Chantelle Rigby, joined the staff at ‘The Oaks Primary School’ who said:

“Chantelle was in each day, on time and looked professional and smart at all times. She interacted with both staff and pupils well. The teacher she supported commented that Chantelle went above and beyond, using her own initiative and even created a wonderful display in the classroom. Pupils loved having Chantelle in class.â€

Chris Lourens, completed his placement with Audi at Cheshire Oaks. Chris thoroughly enjoyed his placement and the experience has confirmed his aspiration of working in the automotive industry, commenting:

“I loved working in the Audi garage. I now know that I definitely want to work with cars in the future and get an apprenticeship. I now know what I need to do to get the career I wantâ€.

Charlie Davidson, worked with JF Plumbing and Heating, said:

“I enjoyed the work placement and it has made me realise how much I want to work in the plumbing industry when I leave school.â€

Alya Merrywether, who attended Christ Church CE Primary, said:

“I was grateful for the opportunity, I really enjoyed my placement! I now have a clear pathway that I want to follow and this has all come from my work experience.â€

The College would like to take this opportunity to thank all businesses who gave the students an opportunity to experience working life. This has motivated our students to succeed and has provided focus in their studies.
