On Thursday 8th November a series of remembrance services were held for all The Ellesmere Port C of E College students. The main address was given by Flight Lieutenant Andrew Broadbent on sacrifices made by four different characters during four different periods of history. These men were all linked to him personally. The music group led by Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Rutter performed a song expressing God’s faithfulness to all but especially to those caught in conflict or warfare. Year 7 students also read prayers and Jack Ashton read a moving piece about a soldier returning from World War I. Our Head Boy, Ethan Lonergan then gave us the Exhortation.
The assemblies were held to remember the sacrifice made by those in past and present conflicts so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have in today’s world.
Mr Anderson, Chaplain at University Church of England Academy remarked, “It was wonderful to welcome Andrew amongst our school community and hear four inspiring stories that had a personal significance for him. I was captured by the heroism shown by those prepared to lay down their lives for the sake of others as illustrated in the verse that Andrew mentioned from John 15:13. “Greater love has no-one than this than one who lays down his or her life for one’s friends.â€
Miss Pedata from the Languages Department declared, “I just wanted to take the opportunity to say that this was the most beautiful Remembrance Assembly I have ever seen since I started teaching.
